Akyaka is situated between the popular tourist resorts Bodrum (150 km) and Marmaris (30 km) in the province of Mugla, in the southwestern part of Turkey. The population in winter is about 2100 and grows in the summer more than doubled.

Akyaka is known for its beautiful location on the edge of the Gulf of Gokova. In the south, bordering a wetland at Akyaka, in the north it is surrounded of the almost 1000 meters high Sakartepe mountains. In this area there are many migratory birds and domestic birds can be observed. The breathtaking view from the Sakar Pass (630 m) is unique. From there you can see the Gulf of Gokova from the bird perspective.

On clear days, you can yet recognize the Greek island of Kos on the horizon. The valley of Gokova is diverse in green tones and loads dipped to full discovery and adventure tours. Akyaka and the villages situated behind the level Gökova were already inhabited in ancient times, of which numerous traces how rock tombs, forts and temples testify.

In the seventies it was Akyaka a small fishing village, surrounded by small farms. A group of Turkish intellectuals discovered in the late seventies Akyaka, as a place where unspoiled nature, the summer climate, tempered by the constant sea breeze, where it is on refreshing way to live.

Gradually Akyaka evolved into a summer residence for domestic tourists, mainly from the areas of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Even today, is the place of more domestic than foreign tourists frequented.

The main attractions of the place are still largely untouched nature, the wetland species, with its wealth of flora and fauna and migratory birds (in the late autumn months to the south, in the spring to the north draw). Yet encountered is the otter (Lutra Lutra). Among gourmets, the fish restaurants on the shore of Kadin Azmak are an insider tip. The crystal clear water and the outgoing of them pleasantly cool animated visitors often linger longer than the usual food would last.

In most off the fish restaurants you can feed wild pigs. These wild pigs live in the conservation area on the other side of the river. The reliable fluttering Gulf wind has in recent times especially water and natural athlete brought after Akyaka. On summer days, you can kite on the beach and the mountain paraglider Sakartepe Athletes observed. The hikers come around Akyaka at their expense. There are 18 different walking tours.

Especially for families with children has Akyaka become a hot tip. The beach is good and is very manageable flat out into the sea, so that the children sometimes unobserved on the beach can play.
